I believe as human beings it is a defense mechanism to become emotionally attached to others; be it an exterior you emmulate and vicariously possess, a familiar face that becomes the safe blanket to the messes you’re unwilling to clean, or even someone who is so visibly undeveloped they make you feel impressive for once in your stack of check minuses. I think as teenagers it is easier to cry over “him/her” than issues of actual significance.
